I had ordered 11 sets of jam liners and have them already installed. All went well except for one. As you slide the upper sash up it pushes the metal clip up and off of the balance, which then lets the window sag down. Why won’t the clip stay on? The bottoms are cut at the 15 degree angle and are tight and the top is tight at the inner sash, but not at the upper outer sash. The only way I see it is by cutting the top so it’s flush but that doesn’t seem logivcal. Please help
Mike, Here’s a couple thoughts. One: There shouldn’t be that big of a gap at the top that the balance would slide out. Obviously I can’t see what you’re working with, but my assumption would be, either the liner is too short for the opening, the frame isn’t square, the top header is bowed, or the sill is not the standard 15 degrees. Short or not, the liner should sit square to the head jamb. Second, are you sure the sash tilt pin is engaged on that side? If the pin is below the terminal, as you raise the sash the pin is pushing up on the terminal and hitting the bottom of the balance. There is roughly an inch between the end of the balance and the pin on the sash. If the terminal was caught between the balance and pin, it would definitely push up on the balance when you raise the sash.
Hi I have recently purchased a house with malta windows the number printed inside is 7a-8 and were built in 1989. I am new to this but I can tell that I will need a few new jamb liners. I was just wondering if I will have to order anything different since it seems my jambliners are connected to the sash in the middle of the sash and not the bottom like most I have seen. I believe I have the v-type and they are 62 inches on the long side. Thanks mike
Mike, I’m a little puzzled by the tilt pin being in the middle of the sash? Regardless, the only product we have available is our universal jambliner kits. To our knowledge they work on Malta windows of that era. If you think that might work for you, you can view and request online at https://fenstersusa.com.
I was puzzled as well could they non tilting if so would this make a difference on jambliner
Yes, if its a non-tilt, our jambliner kit won’t work. I couldn’t tell you where to find something like that.
Craftline Corp. in Maumee, OH provided double hung windows for our new house in 1969-1970. Several of them need new balances ( I think these are what you call vinyl compression jambliners) Are these available? If they are do you know of someone in the Maumee, OH area who could install them? Thanks.
Jambliner kits can be purchased from our jambliner kit product page on our website, https://fenstersusa.com. Unfortunately, we do not have a contact in your area for installation.
Where do I go to find out how to repair Malta window sashes?
Chaz, Can you be more specific?
Ryan,
I received the seven sashes today that I ordered only a couple weeks ago. They are beautiful and look much better quality than the Caradco sashes they are replacing. Your attention to detail is second to NONE. In fact, they look so good, I may replace the others that haven’t rotted yet. I’m also replacing the glass units in these sashes with a quality low E glass unit. I couldn’t be happier and look forward to doing business with you again.
All the best,
Bill Gill
Bill, thank you so much for your kind words and support! We appreciate your business very much and hope to serve you in the future.
Hi , I Have a customer with Malta double hung windows, sash are rotted out. They were installed Aug / 89
7- B1 on the glass 30-375 x 15-375 any way to get new sash for these windows. Thanks Dave
David, All of our available matching Malta sashes can be viewed on our sash catalog on our website, https://fenstersusa.com.
I noticed that the timber sashes on some of my grandmother’s windows needs to be repaired. I’m just trying to take of it for her since she can’t really take care of much on her own anymore. I’m glad that I found this post, and I’m pretty sure she has Pozzi windows from the ’80s. Thanks for sharing this post with me, as this seems like a good investment.
We have caradco awning type Windows where the lever operators are broken. Do you know where we could obtain replacement parts? My understanding is the entire operator needs replacement even though it’s functioning. The lever broke is all.
Chris, You are correct. More than likely, depending on the style of operator, a replacement part is sold as a complete unit. To my knowledge, Caradco had always used TRUTH hardware. Any Truth distributor can help you. We have a link to our distributor on our website, https://fenstersusa.com, however hardware is not our specialty. All we can offer is access to the self-service catalog for you to identify the part you need and we can order it for you.
Hello Fenster,
I’ve been searching for a Caradco sash lock for a double hung window. As far as I can tell the OEM’s came in two styles, both had a very narrow catch. None of the hardware stores have anything that will work without modification and drilling new holes in the sash. Have you got anything that works with the original windows?
Al, That’s probably just a standard Truth sash lock. Assuming they still make the style you need, we can get it. We’ll need to see which one you have. You can send pictures to sales@fensterusa.com. Thank you.
Hi, I am looking to replace a lower sash (30 1/2″ by 38″, with 9 lights) for a Barber and Ross window. Would you happen to carry this? If yes, please let me know the price and shipping to Bethesda, MD. Thank you very much in advance, David
David, We can’t process quotes over a public blog for security reasons, but we’d be happy to help if you would like to submit an order request through our website. https://fenstersusa.com. Just an FYI, we’ve had some issues with conflicting specifications regarding Barber and Ross products. We’ll need to gather very specific information about the dimensions of your window in order to provide you with the correct, match parts.
Can you provide me with ANY sill for a Pella casement window sash.I have the serial number of the existing windows and all the measurements you need….Thanks Mike S
Sorry Michael, We don’t do anything with Pella.
I need 2 vent sashes or new stiles and rails for Malta awnings from the early 1980’s
They are all wood and there is an awning over top of another awning
I measured the screen size to determine the window size 41 9/16″ x 24 7/16″
Visible glass is 38 1/2″ W x 21 1/8″ H
When I was at the building I also took pictures if you need them
Please let me know if I can purchase items or sashes to fix the problem
They have drywall screws through the stiles into the frame to hold in place
Hello Jon, I’m sure we can help you, but I can’t do anything over the blog here. That’s sounds like it might be our MT-100, but you’ll have to confirm that from our model catalog off our main website. https://fenstersusa.com. We’ll need edge to edge width and height of the sash in question to quote it for you.
Over the years I have collected several alum cad wood sashes that I don’t need or have replaced the window all CARADCO parts, do you want them?
I appreciate the gesture Jack. We’re not in the salvage business. We mill all of our own products from scratch here.
